Brooke Shields Suffers Seizure, Bradley Cooper Comes to Her Aid
Brooke Shields has opened about suffering a grand mal seizure in September 2023 after drinking too much water. The actress revealed that she had been prepping for her Cafe Carlyle show at the time and was also recording a podcast, which led to her drinking more fluids than usual.
Brooke Shields Interview to Glamour Magazine:
Brooke Shields told Glamour magazine that she was at L’Artusi restaurant in New York City when she had the seizure. She said that she was talking to the sommelier when she felt herself starting to black out. “My hands drop to my side and I go headfirst into the wall,” she said. “I start having a grand mal seizure… Frothing at the mouth, totally blue, trying to swallow my tongue.”
Brooke Shields said that the next thing she remembered was being loaded into an ambulance with Bradley Cooper sitting next to her holding her hand. “I couldn’t really get any words out,” she said. “But I thought to myself, ‘This is what death must be like.’ You wake up and Bradley Cooper’s going, ‘I’m going to go to the hospital with you, Brooke,’ and he’s holding my hand. And I’m looking at my hand, I’m looking at Bradley Cooper’s hand in my hand, and I’m like, ‘This is odd and surreal.’”
Overhydration:
Brooke Shields said that she was taken to the hospital, where she was diagnosed with having had a seizure due to low sodium levels. She explained that she had been drinking so much water that she had flushed out the salt from her body, which can lead to seizures.
Shields said that she has been eating potato chips every day since her seizure, as per her doctor’s orders. She also said that she is now more careful about how much water she drinks, especially when she is exercising or sweating a lot.
The actress’ story has served as a reminder that it is important to be aware of the risks of overhydration. While it is important to stay hydrated, especially during hot weather or when exercising, drinking too much water can lead to serious health problems, including seizures and even death.
What is a Grand Mal Seizure?
A grand mal seizure is the most common type of seizure. It is characterized by a sudden loss of consciousness, followed by muscle contractions and convulsions. The seizure usually lasts for a few minutes, and the person may remain unconscious for a short time afterward.
Grand mal seizures can be caused by a variety of factors, including epilepsy, head injuries, brain tumors, and drug use. They can also be triggered by stress, lack of sleep, or certain medications.
Conclusion:
Brooke Shields’ seizure incident is a reminder of the importance of taking care of your health and staying hydrated. While it is important to drink plenty of fluids, it is also possible to drink too much water. If you experience any symptoms of overhydration, such as headache, nausea, vomiting, or confusion, it is important to seek medical attention immediately.
